Ivan Vasilev has extensive experience in economics and finance, as well as in the design and implementation of economic policies and technology projects. From 2023 to September 2025, he served as Deputy Mayor of Sofia, overseeing finance and health and, on an interim basis, public works. Previously, he spent four years on the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Entrepreneurial Association (BESCO), serving as Director of Policy and Strategy. He co-authored amendments to the Commerce Act introducing a new legal form—the variable capital company—and legislative changes to facilitate the employment of highly skilled professionals from abroad. His work focused on advancing Bulgaria’s transition towards an economy driven by high value-added industries. He also served for five years on the Board of Directors of Comrade Cooperative, Bulgaria’s first decentralized autonomous organization. Alongside his policy and leadership experience, Vasilev has a strong background in software development, with a focus on artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies.
