Vangelis Karamanolakis is Professor of Theory and History of Historiography at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He is President of the Historical Archive of NKUA and President of the Board of Directors of the Contemporary Social History Archives (ASKI). He has also taught at the Universities of Crete and Panteion University. His research interests include the theory and history of historiography, modern Greek historiography, memory studies, the history of the Greek military dictatorship (1967–1974), the history of institutions, archival research and archival policies, and the history of psychiatry. He has published extensively in these fields. His books include The Formation of Historical Scholarship and the Teaching of History at the University of Athens, 1837–1932 (Athens, 2006);The University of Athens and Its History, 1837–1937 (with Kostas Gavroglou and Chaido Barkoula, Heraklion, 2014);and An Unwanted Past: Political Screening Files in Twentieth-Century Greece and Their Destruction (Athens: Themelio, 2019), which was awarded a prize by the Academy of Athens. He also edited Educating Children in Post-Revolutionary Athens: The Diaries of John and Fanny Hill (Athens: Eurasia, 2023).
